Ready-to-Wear fashion month came to a close this week, the last four weeks have seen some stunning spectacles and some duds. Some fashion shows have impressed with their creativity and huge production values……
others, have left us bemused – they are neither creative nor wearable.
The Grinko show on the other hand left me feeling happy – it has been a pleasure to see this new label evolving season by season from its beginnings in 2009. The fall/winter 2014-15 Ready-to-Wear collection was the eponymous designer’s best yet.
Sergei Grinko has turned to Cheburashka, an iconic Russian children’s character from his youth, for inspiration with the figure appearing on prints and embroidery. Introvert is the title of the latest collection and clearly the designer has built on the boyish theme present in his last two seasons and added an “Arabic mood”. How does this translate into clothes? Layers of soft fabrics with trapezoidal lines and volumes, unusual geometric prints, plastic and rubber embellishments. Long masculine shirts were worn with tight cigarette pants; the humble sweatshirt has been given a sophisticated upgrade with fur and leather applications. The colour palette featured soft greys, teal, powder blue, milky whites and black.
The models must be loving the trend for masculine footwear, giving their feet a break from treacherous platform pumps and avoiding any perilous falls as in previous years. The Grinko fashion show had its models sporting Doc Martins in metallic leather and monochrome English style brogues.
Oh and did I mention the the explorer type hats, this is becoming a signature Grinko motif.
Here’s a video of the final walk by – as ever, enjoy xx.
